Overall Activity in the Past Quarter
Most of the work has been focused on performance and merge preparedness. Bonsai Tries left experimental status. Snap Sync and Checkpint sync have entered experimental status and have reduced sync time 10-30x.
Besu has participated in multiple mainnet shadow forks and in the merging of the Ropsten and soon the Sopolia testnets. There is no fixed timeframe for the Ethereum Mainnet merge, but Besu has been tracking well with all clients in merge readiness.
Current Plans
The Besu Roadmap contains the current working set of future tasks, including merge participation and cleanup, migration to an injection library, and support of post merge hard forks.
Maintainer Diversity
Two maintainers were moved to emeritus status. A new “Curator” status was created to allow contributors to manage issues and project plans without having rights to push the “merge” button, moving two previous committers to curator status and hence to emeritus status.
This reduces the non-consensys maintainer share to 15% (3 of 20).
Corporate distribution is unchanged from the last quarters report (ConsenSys, Splunk, Hedera, ETC Co-operative).
Contributor Diversity
Additional Information
Hyperledger, the Ethereum Foundation, and ConsenSys are finalizing the agreements and documentation for the Client Incentive Program.
